Memory Profiler 7.4 and Outlook VSTO lockin

Postby geetarman » Mon Sep 16, 2013 8:52 am

When trying to profile an Outlook VSTO addin with 7.4 the profiler will not take a snapshot. The application simply sits with message 'Awaiting snapshot'
The profiler does respond to the menu and I can see the following message in the log file if this is of any relevance.

16 Sep 2013 08:31:10.120 [Profiler pipe monitor] ERROR RedGate.Profiler.Engine.Startup.Basic.PipeConnection - Failed to retrieve message from core

I have left it running for up to 20 minutes now....

other relevant info
Window 8
Visual Studio 2012
Office 2013

Are there any error that end up in the windows application event log? That's about our best chance of a good stack trace.

A few seccnds after mem profiler starts and about 15 seconds before the error in the log file there are two perflib errors in the log file

Windows cannot load the extensible counter DLL MOM_Agent. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the Windows error code.

Windows cannot load the extensible counter DLL MOM_Default. The first four bytes (DWORD) of the Data section contains the Windows error code.

Could it be related to this?
I can nothong else that looks relevant.

Yes it could be related to this. I suggest manually rebuilding your counters:

OK, progress of a sorts... Any errors whatsoever in event log now?

Has the AMP log changes at all?

Any other different symptoms?

There are now no errors in the event log. The log file is still the same and the result is exactly the same.

If I can reproduce this issue, I could fully debug it- would you be prepared to send me a sample reproduction project?

I would be willing to , however, I doubt I can as the project is too large and complicated.
Additionally , I seem to have sorted out my memory issue anyway so currently no longer have the need for the profiler.
