All of my memory is private bytes

Postby rnbguru » Thu Jan 19, 2012 8:55 pm

I'm testing the memory profiler and it is reporting all of the memory usage of my windows service as being private bytes, with a small fraction being visible when I take the snapshot.

To put it into context, it says 1 GB is private bytes, and only 6MB are in all of the heaps.

Is there any way to get more information on why the private bytes section is so large or what this allocation might be?

It sounds like you have an unmanaged memory leak. In a lot of cases, this manifests somewhere in the managed heap and you can use ANTS Memory Profiler to troubleshoot these kinds of leaks. There is some advice for troubleshooting these here on our Knowledge Base: ... aged_leaks
