Changed By column is always "Unknown"

When I hover over the Changed By column this message is displayed: "User Information is no longer in the default trace". How do I modify the default trace to include user information?

Similar problem...only other editors are listed

I am linked using the 'shared' model.
All changes I have made are displayed as 'Unknown' in the Changed By column.
All changes made by others display their login name.

Should we simply consider 'Unknown' to mean 'Me'?
